For the curious:

So what does all that Latin mean?
  • Literally:
"The man who is pure in his life and untouched by wrongdoing has no need of Moorish javelin or bow."
  • Colloquially:
"An upright man, free of guilt, needs no weapon to defend himself."
  • The word "jaculis" means "javelin" [ at least that's what I wrote for the Wikipedia and Wiktionary ]  The interpretation of this noun for the site is that a javelin is "a means to get to a point".  Where it ends up is largely dependent upon the conditions as to how it is used.
  • The Nordic translation for "spear" or "javelin" is "Geir", from which we know the word "Geir-den", "den" meaning "home", which came into English as "garden", so we hope that this is also a healthy Garden of Knowledge for the community.
  • The hope of the discussions is that they promote healthy interchange and dialog that helps to get to the point of whatever issues are being discussed, and either results in practical improvements or avoidance of mistakes in businesses and their management.
  • Including cited references to support opinion is very much encouraged, because it helps others to verify the legitimacy of a viewpoint. Real life experience is also valuable, and the experience is the reference in itself, citing oneself is not all that unusual, and still part of APA guidelines for communications..
  • We hope that exchanges are civil, and that civility is used to speak among each other. Racial, gender-based, religious, or other language clearly expressing hate, or attacks that are prohibited by law will not be tolerated an will be reported to the proper authorities.
  •  Remember that we are a community real people with feelings and emotions, and are not just the subject matter we express, nor are we our opinions. Personal attacks are not welcome.
  • Divergent viewpoints "targeted" at the issue being debated are the main focus of any disagreement. So, please, let's keep the dicussions on the issues, not on a particular person. Thanks!
  • To iterate, we can all help by:
  • Contributing our ideas
  • Referencing our viewpoints to a known source when possible.
  • Respecting the feelings and opinions of others.
  • Staying "on topic"
